The Natural bridge or 'Living Roots Bridge' is a common occurrence in the Khasi Hills and Jayantia Hills districts east of Meghalaya. No one can say when the jungles began to build bridges in the jungles spread to villages.

These tree roots in Meghalaya are spread over many rivers and springs and serve as a bridge for the people. About 50 people can walk on such a route bridge at a time. These bridges take about 10–15 years to be fully prepared. Many of the root-bridges present here are up to 500 years old. Such bridges are found exclusively in Meghalaya. Even today people use these bridges to visit the villages around Cherrapunji.

The trees that make up this bridge are rubber trees. Trees are often used in the construction of bridges, such as stones, dust, etc. Local people say it usually takes 3 years to build a bridge.
